The 12th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 25th September 1787 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Spadille, a bay colt by Highflyer out of Flora, owned by Lord Archibald Hamilton, and trained and ridden by John Mangle of Ashgill, Middleham. A field of 6 runners contested the race, although there were 9 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 225 Guineas. (Equivalent to £34,000 in 2017)
